Hand Evaluation -- Opening Hands
Taught by: Cornelia Yoder
Class Date : January 24 at 7:59 pm (New York Time) Description : To open or not to open, that is the question! Everyone learns how to count High Card Points early in their bridge career, but we all know that HCPs are not enough -- a singleton K and a doubleton Q are not worth as much as KQxxx. Not all 13 point hands are created equal -- judgment is needed to upgrade an 11 point hand to an opening or downgrade a 13 point hand to a pass. In three 2-hour sessions, we will discuss how to evaluate a hand for opening 1 of a suit, when to open and when to pass. I will show you several guideline methods, but more importantly, I will show you how to tell the difference between an 11 point hand that should be opened and a 13 point hand that should be passed. In future classes, I will tackle Hand Evaluation in responding, in overcalls, and in game and slam decisions. This class is a repeat of the Wed morning one. 20% discount to anyone that has taken any of my previous classes.
